Civic Action Team Palau
The United States Civic Action Team (CAT) Palau provides community construction support to the host nation, assists and trains apprentices with general engineering skills, facilitates a medical outreach program, coordinates community relationship programs, and maintains monuments on Peleliu and Angaur. The CAT consists of Army, Navy and Air Force engineers who perform six-month rotational deployments to Palau. CAT Palau is an integral part of the U.S. mission to assist and support the development of the Republic of Palau through agreements made in the Compact of Free Association between the two nations.
Since 1969
In 1969, the government of the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands requested assistance from the Civic Action Teams (CAT) with the Department of Defense (DOD) for a Civic Action Team in Palau. That year, the Navy Seabees sent their first team of engineers. The following year, in 1970, the Army and Navy began sending teams. Today, CAT-Palau is the only U.S. Military CAT team in the Pacific. Navy, Army, and Air Force engineering teams deploy on a six-month rotation to Camp Katuu. 2025 marks the 56th anniversary of the CAT mission in Palau.
Community Driven
Civic Action Team Palau provides free labor and engineering expertise for community projects. All materials must be purchased by the customer, and no projects may be conducted for private homes or businesses. Projects over 10 Man Days must be approved by the Civic Action Coordination Committee.
